Jazz concert is last of the year

The next jazz concert at Hospitalfield in Arbroath will be the last one for this year and will be held on Saturday, November 2.

Making his debut will be one of the best jazz clarinettists in the world, Evan Christopher. He will be joined by the ever-popular Classic Jazz Orchestra led by drummer Ken Mathieson.

Evan Christopher is based in New Orleans and his style of playing is heavily influenced by the early great clarinettists like Sidney Bechet and Barney Bigard. The nine-piece Classic Jazz Orchestra also breathes new life into the music of Ellington, Basie and Goodman.

Alan Steadman, who runs the venue, said: “I am absolutely delighted to be able to bring Evan to Arbroath. We have managed to get him at the end of a European tour and just before he goes into the recording studios. He played with Ken’s Orchestra at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival and I was convinced it was a fitting way to celebrate 23 years of Jazz@Hospitalfield.”

Tickets cost £12 and can be reserved on 01382 774648.
