The First Minister of Scotland has written to the Arbroath Herald following the publication of a White Paper outlining the impact of independence.
Last month the Scottish Government produced the document ‘Scotland’s Future – Your Guide To An Independent Scotland’, a detailed prospectus for an independent nation.
Alex Salmond MSP, leader of the Scottish National Party and First Minister of Scotland, wrote: “It is a blueprint for a better Scotland, a comprehensive guide to how independence would be achieved and how it would benefit communities, families and individuals the length and breadth of Scotland, from Arbroath to Arran.
“I believe the publication is a landmark moment in the country’s constitutional journey, offering a detailed guide on how we can build a more prosperous economy and a fairer society, transforming Scotland in areas such as childcare, pensions, welfare, energy bills and the tax system.”
The 170,000 word document also contains a 200 page section answering 650 questions, many submitted by the public, on a range of issues.
Mr Salmond continued: “Scotland’s Future - Your Guide to an Independent Scotland is the only positive plan for our country. It contains details of how the transition to independence would be achieved as well as outlining policies that will bring about a revolution in economic, employment and social policy in Scotland, allowing us to gain control of the full range of economic levers and harness Scotland’s vast natural resources and talent to shape a more prosperous society.
“I believe that Scotland’s Future - Your Guide to an Independent Scotland is a watershed moment in the referendum run-in and will drive the debate in this country.”
