The charity Help for Heroes will be holding an information and fundraising day in Arbroath tomorrow (Wednesday, November 30).
The aim is to raise awareness and increase support for Help for Heroes, recruit volunteers and raise funds by selling merchandise.
The Help for Heroes roadshow will be on the corner of Applegate and Allan Street from 10am to 4pm.
Founded in 2007 to provide direct and practical support to wounded, injured and sick service personnel, veterans and their families, Help for Heroes provides grants to individuals and specialist charity partners – including more than 65 grants in Scotland this year alone.
The charity also operates four recovery centres which aim to help those injured or wounded while on active service and enable them to lead active, independent and fulfilling lives.
There are around 500 Scottish members of Help for Heroes Band of Brothers (BoB) which provides lifelong support to those who have an injury or illness attributable to service and Band of Sisters (BoS) which provides lifelong support to their loved ones.
Ailsa Alcock, regional income manager for Scotland, said: “We have a variety of volunteering opportunities to suit whatever time an individual is able to spare.
“We also have great partnerships with Tesco, Asda and Debenhams, who all allow our volunteers to do fundraising and sometimes to sell merchandise in their stores.
“But people can take part in any way they would like to – even by doing something as simple as holding a barbecue or selling home baking.
“If people want to organise their own event we’re more than happy to do whatever we can to help them do so. If you have an idea, let us know how we can help.”
All those who would like to volunteer will have their names added to Help for Heroes’ volunteer register, and the charity will then identify events or occasions for them to help.
Ailsa added: “Local knowledge is key, too, so we’re looking to find out what’s happening in the area. T
“here are so many opportunities to identify great events and more volunteers and we would be delighted to hear from anyone.
