New quit smoking group in Arbroath

SPRING has well and truly sprung. So what better time to give your lungs a spring clean, free yourself from the slavery of smoking cigarettes and prepare for a healthier, wealthier spring and summer.

If you stop smoking now you will be healthier and fitter and be better able to take advantage of the coming brighter weather and longer days.

If you smoke 20 cigarettes each day, quitting will make you around £200 better off every month, money that could be used to help you enjoy your new found healthier lifestyle.

And the good news is help is at hand. NHS Tayside Smoke Free Services are delighted to announce the start of an additional quit smoking group to add to the two currently running in Arbroath.

On Monday (April 18) the new group will commence in Arbroath Community Centre at 7.30 p.m. This adds to the existing provision of groups at Abbey Health Centre, every Monday at 10.30 a.m. and Springfield Medical Centre, every Monday at 4.30 p.m.

Did you know that you are at least four times more likely to stop smoking with the help of an NHS quit smoking programme where you can get help and advice from a friendly, trained quit smoking advisor, referral for medication to help you quit and most importantly the support of others who are quitting too.

The quit smoking groups are free and anyone who wants to stop smoking is welcome to attend. It is not expected that you will have given up smoking when you come to your first meeting. Weekly meetings last for around an hour.

If you want to register for a group, telephone the Tayside Smoking Helpline on 0845 600 9996 or just come along on the day. As well as the Tayside Smokeline number above you can get further information about local groups by phoning the NHS Tayside Smoke Free Services in Angus on 01241 430303.
