Busy spell ahead for cancer charity

ANGUS Local Committee for Cancer Research UK has a very busy period ahead.

Chairperson Alana Loudon has intimated that they have three big events coming up. The first is on Sunday, October 30, when the first Angus Big Pink Zumba will be held to raise money for breast cancer month.

On Sunday, November 6, the second Christmas Gift Fair will be held and on Sunday, January 1, hardy swimmers will take part in the second New Year’s Day Dook.

The committee also has two store collections organised in December.

Alana said: “The committee that organises these fantastic events is made up entirely of volunteers. They work very hard and give their free time as they are all committed to raising money for Cancer Research UK which is such a worthwhile cause.

“We are inviting the people of Angus to support us and come along to one of the events – or better still all three!”

Thanks to the contribution made by the people of Angus, Cancer Research UK was able to spend nearly £34 million last year in Scotland on some of the UK’s leading scientific and clinical research.

The charity’s groundbreaking work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives.  This work is funded entirely by the public.

Cancer Research UK area volunteer manager Richard Cowie said: “I would like to thank the Angus committee for all their hard work and dedication.

“The assistance of all our supporters throughout Angus who help to raise funds has been invaluable and very much appreciated and without them we would be unable to do our world class research.”
