Have a historical half-term

WHY NOT take your children along to a Historic Scotland attraction over the half-term holidays?

With the recent release of Brave, the Disney-Pixar film, now is the time to explore the real places which inspired the film.

In addition, all children who come to a ticketed Historic Scotland site dressed as a historic hero during the school holidays, will receive an ‘I’m a historic hero’ badge with a special certificate.

And if you send in an image of your little heroes in costume at one of our attractions to hs.website@scotland.gsi.gov.uk, you could also enter our competition to win a very special prize.

The prizes include a VIP trip to Edinburgh Castle with an exclusive behind the scenes tour. You will dine like royalty with lunch in the historic setting of Scotland’s number one paid for visitor attraction, and will also get the opportunity to meet the One O’ Clock Gunner and get a goody bag to take home.

There is also the opportunity to win a Historic Scotland family membership for one year, so you can explore the organisation’s 78 sites, enjoy events from jousting to living history camps and learn about Scotland’s fascinating history and heritage.

Visitors can text HERO to 84118 to find their nearest Historic Scotland site.

Stephen Duncan, director for commercial and tourism at Historic Scotland, said: “October is a great time to explore Scotland’s castles, palaces and other magical historic sites.

“This year we want children to get really involved by coming along during the school holidays dressed as their favourite historic character.

“They’ll get a chance to win a great prize as well as making historic memories for them and their family!”
