Government rejects school proposal

THE CONTROVERSIAL Arbroath Schools Project that would have seen a brand new £8 million school at Hospitalfield house has been scrapped by the Scottish Government.

The proposal, which planned to see pupils from Timmergreens and Muirfield Primaries merge into a new building off the Westway had been under consideration by education secretary Mike Russell since August.

The project was called in by the government after concerns were raised over a flawed consultation process and a lack of road safety outside the proposed new site.

But now it has been reported that the government have rejected the proposal, which was initially approved by Angus Council in July.

For reaction to the decision see Friday’s Arbroath Herald.
