After years of campaigning Arbroath Skatepark was officially launched on Saturday to huge crowds of admirers.

The product of more than four years of constant lobbying and fund-raising the £202,000 facility was opened in amidst a carnival atmosphere with music, stalls and fun attractions.

As our pictures show there were plenty of skaters and BMXers, both young and old, who were keen to try out the ramps and other features.

On Facebook people responded enthusiastically to the facility.

Louise Ramage posted: “Fantastic turn out for the opening of the Arbroath Skatepark, lots to do and see lovely weather lots of stalls well done.”

Kelly Bennett added: “Spent the afternoon down at Arbroath Skatepark, and despite being neither a skater nor a bmx chick thoroughly enjoyed it. Any suggestion the park will be just another thing that gets used for just a short spell is completely unfounded.”
