Games to help local clubs

Angus community sport clubs and groups who are promoting activities, sport or hosting an event to celebrate the 2014 Commonwealth Games are being invited to hear about available funding and volunteering opportunities.

Chair of the Angus Games Steering Group, Councillor Jeanette Gaul said: “Glasgow 2014 will be the largest sporting and cultural event Scotland has ever hosted and with less than one-year to go, there is a great sense of pride and excitement around the Games.

“This investment will allow these clubs and groups to contribute to a programme of memorable events in 2014 and create a lasting legacy and unforgettable experiences for all of Angus’s residents.”

Angus Council is holding an event on Tuesday, September 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Reid Hall, Forfar.

There will be presentations from sportscotland about available sports-related funds and Voluntary Action Angus about volunteering opportunities in sports groups.

Angus Council’s sports development team and external funding team will also be on hand to give support and advice.
