THE LOCAL fund-raising committee of Cancer Research UK is urging local people to start 2013 in Arbroath with a splash!
For the third year in succession the charity group will be holding their traditional New Year’s Day Dook at the West Links at 1 p.m.
Around 66 brave dookers took part in the last event at the start of 2012 and now the committee is hopeful to see more people take part this time, as well as a healthy crowd of spectators.
Chair of the committee Alana Loudon explained: “This is a great event and honestly it is very enjoyable.
A lot of dookers do it in fancy dress and this is very amusing. It only costs £5 to take part and for this you get a T-shirt and a swimming cap.
“We would love to increase the numbers for 2013 and of course every penny raised goes to Cancer Research UK.
“I am encouraging dookers to register as soon as possible so that we have an idea of numbers, however, you can register up to 12.30 p.m. on the day at Gayfield, where there will be changing facilities.
“We will be entering the water at 1 p.m. and would love to have as many dookers in as possible and also invite spectators to encourage them!”
Anyone wanting to take part should contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 07881940418.
