A familiar face at Arbroath Lifeboat Shed will appear a good deal less often thanks to an exotic job offer.
Full-time RNLI mechanic Allan Russell has been offered a position as a coxswain aboard a work boat operating from a seismic survey vessel.
He will be in command of the 30 foot boat and its crew of four or five as it accompanies its parent ship surveying oil and gas fields around the world.
However, working a five week on, five week off shift pattern means that Allan will still be able to function as part of the Arbroath volunteer lifeboat crew.
He said: “I’m still going to be a lifeboat volunteers, I’m just stepping down as full-time mechanic, probably just be volunteer coxswain.”
