Free diabetes event

A FREE diabetes information event is to be held in Arbroath on Thursday.

My Diabetes- My Way takes place in the Health Education Room at Springfield Medical Centre in Arbroath from 3 p.m. Until 5 p.m.

Organised by the Arbroath Diabetes Forum the afternoon session is aimed at people living in Arbroath and the surrounding area who are living with diabetes. Their families and carers are welcome to come along to the event and find out more about diabetes.

The session at Springfield Medical Centre will be focusing on the benefits of healthy eating and the importance of maintaining a healthy weight.

Staff from Angus Community Health Partnership’s dietetic department will be on hand during the afternoon to answer questions on healthy eating and offer practical advice on weight management, as well as lead interactive sessions looking at encouraging healthy lifestyles.

Making sensible food choices and adapting eating habits help diabetics manage their condition and protect their long-term health, as a balanced diet can help to control blood glucose levels, blood fats including cholesterol and blood pressure.

Rhona Guild, primary care manager, Angus Community Health Partnership, said: “Living with a long term condition can be very challenging.  That is why it is important for people affected by a long-term condition to have access to the right information, education, support and services to help them manage their condition more effectively.

“This afternoon session offers additional information and support to people with diabetes to help improve their lives and manage their condition.  I would encourage people living with diabetes and their families and friends to come along to the free event at Springfield Medical Centre.”
