Former Special Constable dies

A WELL-KNOWN Special Constable who received long service medals after over 32 years in the Tayside Police Force has died recently following a short illness.

Andrew Shellard, Muirdrum, was committed to serving the community in this voluntary capacity and was regularly on duty twice a week. He attended many events and functions in his role as a Special Constable.

Mr Shellard was born in Brechin in 1948 and brought up in Arbroath. He attended Arbroath High School and later trained as a precision engineer. He had a long career at Halliburtons, Arbroath, which spanned over 33 years.

With work colleagues, friends and family he enjoyed many pursuits including climbing and outdoor adventures at the Compass Centre in Glen Isla. Andrew was also a prolific model car collector.

He was a keen rugby player with Carnoustie Rugby Club and a supporter. He was a founder member of the Carnoustie Mini Rugby Club, being made honorary chairman after many years of dedication.

Most of all, Andrew was a loving family man and is survived by his wife, Linda, their children, Gillian and Kenneth, and grandchildren, Angus, Rory, James and Georgina.
