The ROYAL Burgh of Arbroath Community Council’s first shot at organising a fireworks display was a great success.
A sub-committee of the community council this year took on the role of organising the display after the previous organisers stood down in July.
Community councillor Ian Watson was delighted with the event. He said: “It was a resounding success.
“The public attendance was about 5,000 and many described the fireworks display as the best to date. This was a fantastic result considering we had only five months to put the event together.”
He added the end result was down to the community effort which rallied behind the display to help with the fund-raising.
Mr Watson added: “The display was not only a great achievement for the community council but also hinged on the generosity of local organisations, businesses and members of the community.
“The fireworks would not have been possible without their financial input and the time many spent to help out on the night. Also, thank you to Citizen of the Year Georgina Ogilvy.
“Arbroath Community Council and the huge crowd of locals experienced the best that our community has to offer, more so due to the difficult financial climate that we are all enduring. All seemed to be forgotten for a few hours on Monday night.
“Well done and thank you to everyone involved, we will see you again next year.”
