Falklands flag presentation

THE EAST of Scotland branch of The Royal Marines Association held their monthly meeting at Arbroath’s Royal British Legion Scotland clubrooms on Friday.

After the meeting, Mr Ian Cameron, a guest from Dundee and a former resident of the Falkland Islands presented a full size Falklands flag to the branch as a gesture of thanks for their part in retaking the islands in the 1982 Falklands War. Mr Cameron still has fond memories of the Falkland Islands, and he travels there as often as possible to visit his mother’s grave in the cemetery at Port Stanley.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the 1982 war and former WO2 Sergeant Major Mike George Mechin is organising a Falklands Reunion. The event is taking place at Condor on the weekend of June 9/10. Former Royal Marines wishing to attend can e-mail George Mechin on sidecaster@aol.com for more details.

All the former 45 Commando Royal Marines pictured in this photograph took part in the Falklands War and are now actively involved in The Royal Marines Association. Shaking hands in the centre are Ian Cameron (left) and RMA East of Scotland Branch chairman Tim Donovan.
