THE LOCAL area will fall silent on Sunday as the war dead are remembered at various Remembrance Sunday events.

In Arbroath, the annual service at the War Memorial on the High Common will begin at 10.30 a.m. and will be conducted by the Rev John Cuthbert.

The parade will be open to all serving and ex servicemen and women along with Royal British Legion Scotland members and it will form up at 10.15 a.m. in Lunan Court Nursing Home.

They will then march to the War Memorial for the service with the Arbroath branch pipe band and afterwards they will make their way back to the Legion clubrooms in Helen Street.

In the event of inclement weather, the service will take place in the Arbroath Legion.

Remembrance Day events in Carnoustie will begin at 1.15 p.m. when the parade will form in Dundee Street for the march to the War Memorial.

The service at the Memorial, which was recently visited by the Princess Royal, will begin at 1.30 p.m., when wreaths will be laid.

In Monifieth, a short church service will take place in St Rule’s Church before making its way to the town’s War Memorial.

A wreath laying ceremony conducted by local clergy and dignitaries will then take place at 12.30 p.m.
