ANYONE can start a kitchen garden, even on a windowsill!
That was the message put over at DEAP’s ‘Grow your own food’ event at the HOPE garden at Hospitalfield House recently.
DEAP supper worker Fiona Keddie explained: “Start up costs for growing fresh herbs and vegetables are very low. Converted plastic egg boxes can be used as a seed pot or sill tray, seed is cheap and guidance and tips are available from the library or online sources.
“Growing your own fresh herbs saves money, develops a skill and gives the satisfaction of some self sufficiency.”
The free class was led by Frank Youil, a qualified lecturer and craftsman gardener who contributes to panels for ‘Gardeners’ Question Time’.
Frank’s family run business is ‘Inspirational Garden Solutions’ which offers design, maintenance and personal shopping services for customers’ gardens.
