Avid gardeners Mr and Mrs Brian and Georgina Anne Rowe had quite a surprise recently when they discovered they had grown extra large runner beans. Mrs Rowe had purchased seeds for runner beans from Poundland earlier in the year and after placing them in a special trench lined with newspaper (copies of the Herald we hope!) and feeding them with fish blood and other nourishing horticultural tricks they were rewarded with the enormous runner beans! Mr Rowe said: “Runner beans are normally about eight inches, but these ones have got to be 16 inches in length!”
Our picture shows Mr and Mrs Rowe with the giant runner beans and a tape measure to show scale.
