The next production at The Abbey Theatre in Arbroath is Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling.

Best known for the film adaptation with an all-star cast including Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton and Darryl Hannah, this touching play focuses on the lives of six ladies in a small Louisiana town.

Shelby Eatenton is getting married and has come to Truvy’s hair salon to prepare for the big day, along with other ladies of the neighbourhood. Annelle is new in town but does she have a secret past? Clairee is a wise-cracking football fan, Ouiser has been in a bad mood for 40 years, and Shelby’s mother M’Lynn is trying her best to stay calm. Set over the course of a year, get ready to laugh and cry as the ladies meet the challenges life throws at them head on.

This play, produced by Brenda Reid, is a heartwarming tale showing the importance of family and friendship. The play runs from Tuesday to Friday, April 18 - 28, with performances starting at 7.30pm nightly (except Sunday). Tickets priced £8 are available from the VisitScotland Information Centre in Arbroath, or by calling 01241 872609.
