Emma’s challenge for Royal Marines

ARBROATH is set to be the finishing line for a woman carrying out a gruelling sponsored cycle in aid of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust.

Emma Young, from Darwen in Lancashire, is to bike ride from the Royal Marines base in Lympstone in Devon up to Arbroath covering a distance of 570 miles.

The ride will begin on August 13 and it will take eight days to reach the town.

Emma (39) who now lives in Stockport, chose to raise money for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust in memory of her brother Martin Craig.

Martin, also of Darwen, was just 17 when he died in a motorbike accident in November, 1987, just two days after passing out as a Royal Marine.

Top of the shops winner

THE WINNER of the Arbroath Herald’s Top of the Shops competition is Mrs Yolande Gordon, St Andrews Crescent.

Mrs Gordon correctly identified the six shops whose pictures appeared in the paper with their signs blurred out.

The correct answers were Silverwells Nursery, Barclay Ross, Colin M. Smith, JM Bakery, DH Robertsons Butcher and Alex Carswell.

Mrs Gordon now wins a £50 voucher to spend at one of those shops.
