A TEAM from Inverbrothock Primary School emerged as the winners of the town’s Rotary Club heat of the Rotary District 1010 primary schools’ quiz last week.
It was the first time Arbroath area schools had been given the chance to enter the keenly contested competition with an eventual first prize of £500, and five schools competed for the honour of representing the Arbroath area in the next stage of the competition.
The competition took place at Timmergreens School where Arbroath Rotary president Don Clark presented all the participants with a certificate and then a cheque for £50 to Inverbrothock as the heat winners. He said the event had a been a great success and he was impressed with the level of knowledge of the pupils.
The Inverbrothock team scored 55 out of a possible 60 points. Timmergreens came second with 50 points and Carmyllie third with 49 points. Other schools taking part were Arbirlot and Warddykes. The competition was organised by the community and vocational convener, David Miller, the question master was Ian Lamb and a team of Rotarians helped with scoring.
Inverbrothock now go forward to the zone final with each zone then being represented in the District 1010 final at Meldrum Academy on June 4 when a first prize of £500 will be up for grabs.
