PRIMARY school teacher Una Cairnie, from Barry, has retired from Hayshead Primary after over 20 years’ service there during which she taught almost every age group.

Latterly she had responsibility for children in P5CL, P7B and P7 MU.

She was presented with a ‘Memories Book’ which had been prepared by children from primaries six and seven.

Mrs Cairnie is pictured surrounded by some of her pupils.

She started her teaching career in Cumbernauld in 1972 and taught in several schools in the Central Belt and Dundee before taking up a post at Barry Primary School.

She then gave up work to bring up her family and 10 years later returned as a supply teacher at Hayshead. She later took up a permanent post at the school.

In her retirement she will be able to devote more time to her hobbies of gardening and walking and is also looking forward to more time on the golf course with husband, Colin, who is also retired.
