NORTH EAST MSP Alex Johnstone has lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament congratulating the pupils of Arbroath Academy for their success in the Four Nations Maths Challenge.
The school acheived a class win and runner-up spot and was top school in the UK-wide competition.
Mr Johnstone said: “I was delighted to hear the news that Arbroath Academy had beaten off strong competition from throughout the UK to win this prestigious title.
“I wanted to pay tribute to the hard work and dedication of the pupils who worked so incredibly hard to win this, so I have lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament which I will be circulating to all MSPs inviting them to support and recognise this magnificent achievement.”
The motion states: “That the Parliament congratulates Arbroath Academy on winning the Four Nations Maths Challenge 2012; understands that Arbroath Academy was also awarded prizes for the top two performing classes in the competition; commends the dedication of the pupils who, it believes, stayed in school overnight to work in shifts, answering as many questions as possible; understands that pupils who volunteered to take part were selected on a first-come-first-served basis, rather than being picked for academic ability, and wishes the school and its pupils the very best for the future.”
