Biggest school cheque to date

OVER the past few months, primary five and six pupils at St Thomas School have led a school project to help Mary’s Meals, a charitable organisation which helps to feed and educate some of the world’s poorest children.

Class teacher Mrs Mary Taylor led the endeavour which saw the school raise a whopping £1,300 and fill 60 backpacks with items such as pencils, notebooks, shorts, T-shirts, flip-flops, toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, towels and tennis balls.

The backpacks will be taken by courier to the Mary’s Meals depot to await shipping and Mrs Taylor presented the cheque to Helen Fleming, the charity’s North East Scotland organiser.

Mrs Fleming said that this was the largest cheque she had ever received from a school and commended the pupils’ efforts.
