A GROUP of carers from all over Angus were presented with certificates by Provost Ruth Leslie Melville for attending training courses organised by Angus Carers Centre at the Meadowbank Inn on Monday.

Angus Carers Centre and Dundee Carers successfully secured funding from the National Carer organisations to provide the training during the summer. This resulted in two programmes of training being developed in Angus and Dundee.

Mhairi Blyth, deputy manager of Angus Carers Centre, explained: “Often carers find themselves in caring roles which they have not been prepared for. We hope that the training opportunities for carers which we provide will enable carers to be more confident and better equipped.”

In Angus, a number of courses including financial capability, valuing your experience and first aid as well as courses specifically for parent carers were offered between May and September and this resulted in 46 carers participating in the programme, with many of them attending more than one course.

One carer commented: “I feel more confident and more able to access support after attending the training. I have enjoyed meeting with others and making new friends.”
