An Arbroath gym owner could find himself lifting for Scotland at Glasgow 2014 if all goes well at a competition this weekend.
Lee Page, owner of the Warehouse Gym on Lindsay Street, could be in line to qualify for Team Scotland in the Olympic weightlifting discipline.
After winning the Scottish Masters Olympic lifting competition at the Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow, Lee will be contesting the Eastern District competition in Pitlochry tomorrow (Saturday).
Lee said: “This is essentially a qualifier for the Commonwealth Games. It turns out I am actually the only competitive Olympic weightlifter in Tayside.
“That’s the dream though, isn’t it? It really depends on the total you achieve. You have to achieve a certain score to gain entry to the Commonwealth Games.”
The Olympic weightlifting section will see Lee contest traditional lifts the ‘clean and jerk’ and the ‘snatch’ with three attempts to reach his best one repetition maximum.
He said: “I’m looking to hopefully get a 90 kilo snatch and a 120 kilo clean and jerk, hopefully, if all goes well!
“It all depends on the Eastern Districts, you could basically gain a total from that to compete in the Scottish team for the Commonwealth games.
“I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been hindered a wee but with a knee injury but I’ll just strap it up and see how it goes. Niggles like that often go hand in hand with training.”
