Diamond day for Douglas and Cath

ARBROATH couple Douglas and Cath Sievwright celebrated 60 diamond years of marriage on Thursday.

The pair, who were both born and brought up in the town, met while out dancing in Brechin before marrying at St Columbus Church in Princes Street on September 1, 1951.

Mr Sievwright was in the Royal Marines and also worked for the family joinery business, while Mrs Sievwright made a living as a weaver.

They have three daughters, including one who lives in Australia and a son as well as 24 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

The couple, who now live in Elmbank Crescent, celebrated the milestone with a party for friends and family at the Red Lion Caravan Park on Thursday.

And Mr Sievwright added that getting on well together is the key to a lasting union. He said: “We just don’t fall out or argue with each other. And if we do it is never for very long.”
