Death of former Tayside Firemaster

THE FUNERAL took place at Broughty Ferry New Kirk on Friday of former Tayside Firemaster Derek Marr OBE, QFSM, Fl Fire E.

He died in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, last Saturday, following a long battle with cancer He was 64 years of age.

A native of Arbroath, he attended Parkhouse School, Hayshead Primary and Arbroath Academy and began his career with the fire service in 1967.

He served at various stations throughout Angus before moving to Perth, where he took up the post of assistant divisional officer. He was later promoted to divisional commander.

In 1988, Mr Marr was appointed Deputy Firemaster and two years later attained the top post.

He was awarded the OBE for his services in 1999 and retired in 2001. His hobbies included golf, reading and do-it-yourself.

He and his wife, Edna, lived in Broughty Ferry. There is one son, Steven, who is a police sergeant in London, and a daughter, Joy, who is an accountant with Angus Council. There are six grandchildren.
