KATHLEEN Calder, a prominent former member of Arbroath Amateur Operatic Society has died at the age of 74.
Born and bred in Arbroath, Mrs Calder (nee Forbes) was educated at Arbroath High School before attending the Royal College of Music in Glasgow.
On graduating she taught at several primary schools in the town and often participated in Arbroath Music Festival with several choirs.
She then became the official accompanist for Arbroath Amateur Operatic Society and was involved in the 1958/59 show of ‘Oklahoma’ and the 1959/60 production of ‘The King and I’.
After marrying her husband, Dennis, she moved to Nairn and taught at schools in Inverness before moving to Bathgate where she lived for 35 years.
The couple were involved in many operatic societies and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year. They have four children and seven grandchildren.
She died on February 8 and is survived by her brothers, David and Donald and mother, Margaret.
