A by-election for Arbroath East and Lunan will be held on Monday, November 28, 2016.

The by-election has been called as a result of the stepping down of Councillor Bob Spink who resigned for health reasons.

If you wish to stand for election a nomination pack and guidance notes are available on the Angus Council website, from the Election Office, Print Unit, Sylvie Way, Orchardbank Business Park, Forfar, DD8 1AY or by telephone 01307 476060.

The election office is open for the issue and receipt of nomination papers on weekdays, from 10am to 4pm (excluding bank holidays).

Completed nomination forms must be delivered to the returning officer at this address on any weekday and not later than 4pm on Wednesday, October 26.

If more than one valid nomination is received, a by-election be held and voting will take place between 7am and 10pm on Monday, November 28.

Polling is usually held on a Thursday. However, the returning officer, Richard Stiff, recognised there are a high number of schools in this ward that are used as polling places. As such he felt it practical to take advantage of the in-service day on Monday, November 28.

For voters who are not registered - applications to register to vote at this by-election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) at Ravenswood, New Road, Forfar, DD8 2ZA, by Thursday, November 10. Applications can also be made online at

Any elector may apply for a postal or proxy vote at this by-election. New applications to vote by post and applications to amend or cancel an existing postal or proxy vote must reach the ERO at the above address by 5pm on Friday, November 11, 2016. New applications to vote by proxy must reach the ERO by 5pm on Friday, November 18, 2016.

Applications to vote by proxy at this by-election applied for on grounds of physical incapacity, where that physical incapacity occurred after 5pm on Friday, November 18, must reach the ERO by 5pm on Monday, November 28, 2016.
