There was a good response for a special zumbathon which raised nearly £1,000 at the weekend in the fight against cancer.

The Double Zumba Challenge took place in the Arbroath Community Centre, with a simultaneous event in Broughty Ferry on Sunday and saw around 80 people take part to raise money for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer research facility at Ninewells Hospital.

Jillian Low, one of the event organisers, said: “After taking off expenses, £480 was collected from entry fees and raffle tickets. This is of course to be match funded by a Breakthrough supporter.

“As there was also the option for folk to ask friends and family to sponsor them for taking part today, we’ll need to wait for the final figure until all the donations are in.

“I am hopeful, that in the end we will have raised 4 or 5 thousand pounds.”

She continued: “We had a range of fantastic zumba instructors from the Angus and Dundee area leading routines and feedback has been very positive.

“Myself and co-organiser Lee-Ann Gunn would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part, donated prizes, or supported friends and family - you all helped to make this such an enjoyable day.”
