Crossing boundaries with ‘Borderline Nerd’

An Arbroath magician’s latest show will have you questioning your eyes and asking, is this a kind of

magic?

‘Affy nice and with a good line in self-deprecating patter, Michael Brandie puts his audience at ease only to moments later destroy their certainties, and he did that en masse on Saturday night at the Abbey Theatre with his strictly for grownups show, ‘Borderline Nerd.’

Mixing sleight of hand, mental manipulation and perhaps even a touch of the unexplainable, the self-styled magic geek had us all hooked from start to finish.

From classics such as sealing away some information in an envelope for an earth-shattering reveal later in the evening to the much-loved ‘switcheroo,’ Michael’s pace and banter never faltered, keeping his audience literally on the edge of their seats.

Some of his new material is cracking, and some of his own tricks have evolved into true jaw-droppers.

Let’s just say the things Michael can do with a pair of Rubik’s cubes will leave your head spinning at the mathematical impossibility of it all.

And the Russian Roulette with staple guns?

Say no more, no wonder this was for over 14s!

We look forward to Michael’s next show with eager interest.

We cannot wait to see what he takes to the Fringe

in 2016.
