A BODY found near Arbroath cliffs has been officially identified as that of a pensioner missing since last week.
On Monday Tayside Police were able to confirm that the body discovered in the water by Whiting Ness on Saturday was that of missing man Edwin Gillespie (85).
Tayside Police issued the following statement this afternoon (Monday): “Tayside Police can confirm that a man who was found near Whiting Ness, Arbroath, on Saturday, February 9, has now been formally identified.
“He has been named as 85-year-old Edwin Gillespie from Arbroath.
“There are no suspicious circumstances and as with all sudden deaths a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
The discovery of Mr Gillespie’s body was made following a large scale air and sea search on Friday and Saturday.
Mr Gillespie was last seen at 11 a.m. on Friday at his home address in Elmfield Avenue and it is thought that he was suffering from the effects of dementia at the time of his disappearance.
