A 30-YEAR-OLD man was expected to appear at Arbroath Sheriff Court yesterday (Thursday) after being charged in connection with the murder of a woman at a flat in the town on Tuesday.
Joanne Rennie (35) was discovered with serious injuries at the property in Culloden Road when police were called following reports of a disturbance around 1.45 that morning.
She was tended to by ambulance staff but despite their efforts, she was declared dead at the scene.
A man in a neighbouring flat said he was listening to music through headphones in the early hours of Tuesday morning when he heard banging noises before being alerted to the signs of police sirens outside.
It is thought that another neighbour had contacted the emergency services.
Police carried out door-to-door enquiries in the Culloden Road area while forensic officers examined the flat.
A mobile command unit was also on the scene with the property cordoned off.
Tayside Police are appealing to anybody who may have been in the area at the time or before the incident to contact them, especially if they saw or heard anything suspicious.
They should contact police on 0300 111 2222 or speak to any officer.
