TAYSIDE Police cordoned off a large section of Hill Place and Hill Terrace in Arbroath yesterday (Thursday) as they conducted enquiries into an incident in which a female was assaulted and sustained minor injuries.

Police confirmed that at around 1 a.m., an incident involving the female and a male took place in the area sealed off.

They added that the male and female in question were seen together in Hill Place and had been sitting on a bench outside of the library.

Police say they are keen to speak to anybody who may have been in the area at the time or who may have seen the male or female.

They are also appealing for a man who was walking away from the town centre in the direction of Ponderlaw to get in touch.

He is described as wearing a grey jacket and grey hat.

On Thursday morning the cordon stretching from the library to the entrance to Springfield Park was still in place with a heavy police presence.

Angus Council staff who work in the buildings in Hill Terrace were allowed to cross the cordon to get to their offices but only under the supervision of police officers.

Should anybody have information relating to the incident, they are asked to contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 999 111.
