Police probe after town centre attack

POLICE in Arbroath are trying to trace the person responsible for breaking a man’s jaw as he stood outside a town centre pub on Thursday.

The 23 year-old victim, who was wearing a yellow shirt, dark blue jeans and white trainers, was smoking with a friend at the entrance to Wetherspoons in Market Place at around 10.40 p.m.

His friend went into the pub and as he turned to do likewise, he felt a pain in his jaw and fell to the ground.

As he got back to his feet he was told by a passer by that a man had punched him and then ran away.

Officers are keen to trace that passer by as he may have information useful to enquiries.

The victim of the assault carried on with his night out and it was only the following day that the continuing pain prompted him to attend at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where he discovered that his jaw had been broken.

In appealing for the by-stander, Tayside Police are also keen to speak with anyone who has information that could help trace the person responsible.

Anyone who can assist should call 0300 111 2222, or speak to any officer.
