Police Scotland have begun investigations after human remains were discovered off the coast of Arbroath.
Officers attended aboard the Kirkcaldy-registered fishing vessel ‘Provider’ at Arbroath Harbour yesterday morning (Monday) after the discovery was reported.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland, Tayside Division, said: “Police Scotland can confirm that officers attended at Arbroath Harbour this morning (Monday, April 6) following a report that suspected human remains had been recovered from the water, seven miles off the coast of Arbroath.
“Following examination, the remains have been confirmed as human and further tests will be carried out to assist officers with their on-going enquiries.”
It is understood that further tests will include attempting to establish the approximate length of time the remains have been in the water.
