A public meeting will be held on Friday (May 17), in the Old & Abbey Church Hall, Arbroath, concerning the proposed closure of the town’s Court.
The meeting will be attended by a number of MSPs, from various parties, who will give their views on the wisdom, or otherwise, of implementing closure.
Among those taking part will be Jenny Marra, vice-chairman of the Scottish Parliament’s Justice Committee, and MSPs Alex Johnstone, Graeme Day, Nigel Don and Alison McInnes.
The meeting will be chaired by Arbroath solicitor Nick Whelan, who has spearheaded the campaign in opposition to the Scottish Court Service’s proposal to transfer all Arbroath court business to Forfar.
Mr Whelan told our reporter that he is hopeful that the question will be debated and voted on by the Scottish Parliament.
He added that since the proposal to close Arbroath Courts was announced he has been inundated with protests from business and the wider community, and this is what prompted him to organise the meeting.
