Council litter crackdown

ANGUS Council have launched a crackdown on litter and are reminding people that discarded cigarettes should be disposed of properly.

As part of the anti-litter campaign, the council are giving away free cigarette butt pocket disposal pouches, available from council ACCESS offices.

Bookmarks will also be given away free from libraries, schools and council offices.

Young people spotted using litter bins could be in line for prizes of £10 vouchers, in an initiative set to start once schools resumes in August.

Angus Council waste management spokesperson, Councillor Jim Millar said: “You can be fined £50 for throwing down litter, including cigarette ends, so there is a real consequence for this anti-social behaviour.”
