Angus Council has launched a zero tolerance campaign against scammers who prey on its vulnerable citizens across the local area.
Angus is the first authority in Scotland to adopt a formal policy on financial harm, setting out how it will target scammers and protect residents.
Colleagues from social work and trading standards have joined forces to stop the fraudsters.
They are also working with other agencies such as the post office, police, voluntary sector and local businesses to raise awareness of scams and prevent citizens falling victim.
The policy was officially launched on Friday by Angus Provost Helen Oswald.
Sge said: “Sadly, vulnerable adults in Angus are more at risk from financial harm than any other form of abuse.
“This is something that we in Angus find unacceptable and why we have launched this policy which builds on the good work which is already taking place in the county across a number of agencies.
“I would urge the public to support us in tackling the scammers who spread so much misery.
“Keep an eye on vulnerable family and friends, look out for lots of junk mail offering a prize draw and unwanted nuisance telephone calls.
“Put up a Doorstoppers sticker and report any suspicions you might have - together we can stop those greedy individuals who financially exploit our most defenceless citizens.”
Also speaking at the launch was Graham Vance, financial business security advisor at the Scottish Business Resilience Centre
He said: “The launch of Angus Council’s policy on financial harm clearly demonstrates a determination to transfer risk from the most vulnerable members of our communities to criminals who abuse their trust.”
