ONE OF Arbroath’s most successful businesses is set to receive the Royal seal of approval next month.
Mackays Jam factory on the Kirkton Industrial Estate will welcome Her Royal Highness, the Princess Royal on Tuesday, October 16.
The visit by Princess Anne will come just weeks after it was announced that Mackays will double the value of its sales to supermarket giant Tesco.
The company, run by the Grant family, is no stranger to Royal accolades.
Earlier this year they were awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the international trade category, which is presented to high-flying businesses and entrepreneurs in the UK.
They were also honoured with the award in 2006 after growing their business, despite still producing their jam the traditional way in copper pans.
And the visit by the Queen’s daughter will cap another successful year for the firm which employs local people and prides itself on using local produce.
The Princess Royal’s visit to Arbroath comes just over a year after her previous stop off in the town where she formally re-opened the refurbished Signal Tower Museum during 2011’s Year of the Light.
Also receiving a visit by the Princess will be the Angus branch of Victim Support Scotland, which operates from Arbroath.
However, Angus Council will be holding a reception for the branch at the Canmore Rooms in Forfar for the occasion, although staff from the town will have the chance to meet Her Royal Highness.
Commenting on next month’s visit a spokesperson for Angus Council said: “Angus Council is delighted to be hosting a civic reception for Victim Support Angus 20th anniversary and very pleased this will be attended by The Princess Royal, president of Victim Support Scotland.”
The Angus branch is marking its 20th anniversary this year and is also celebrating moving to new premises at 82 High Street.
As well as the civic reception, the service is planning to hold its own dinner for staff and volunteers in October to mark the anniversary.
During her trip to the area, Princess Anne will also rededicate plaques to two VC winners at Carnoustie War Memorial and also carry out an engagement in Kirriemuir.
