SHOPPERS in Arbroath should prepare to see some curious grins and beaming faces on Friday as a ‘tour of smiles’ lands at The Co-operative Food store in Arbirlot Road.
A retro 1970s campervan is touring the UK for six months spreading the word that ‘co-operatives make the world smile’, while also raising awareness of the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives.
The smile hit squad will be handing out stickers, comedy smile postcards and make-your-own mini models of the iconic smile tour van itself, as well as offering information about co-operatives around the world and inviting people to share a smile online for a chance to win £100 of shopping vouchers each week.
Co-operatives provide over 100 million jobs around the world, and The Co-operative Group operates 4,800 trading outlets in the UK, employing more than 100,000 people with an annual turnover of more than £13 billion.
Gerard Hill, secretary for The Co-operative in Scotland, said: “With a presence in every UK postal area, The Co-operative is committed to the communities in which we trade, and the campervan tour is a fun and engaging way to highlight the significant contribution that the co-operative sector makes in the world, and forms part of our activities to mark the UN International Year of Co-operatives.
“During its tour the campervan will bring the co-operative message to thousands of would-be co-operators and show how co-operatives can make a real difference to everyone’s day-to-day lives.”
The campervan will be at the food store at 7 Arbirlot Road, Timmergreens, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday, June 22. For more information about the smile tour visit www.co-operative.coop/smiletour
