AN ARBROATH hair salon is hoping to go one better than last year in a prestigious national hairdressing competition.
The team from Cloud 9, based on the West Port have again made it through to competitive rounds of the Redken NYC Hair Awards 2012.
Last year, they finished runners-up of the overall competition and are travelling to London on Sunday to exhibit their latest creations.
And this time they are doubling their chances of success with two entries in the competition, one in the colour category and the other in the runway to reality cutting category.
Arbroath models, Siobhan Brogan and Hannah Reynolds will be making the trip to the capital to show off the styles created by Cloud 9.
Salon owner Bekki Smith-Dutton explained they had to pick a fashion designer as their inspiration and base their style around it as well as choose make-up and clothes.
Siobhan, who will be modelling in the colour category, will be showing off a look inspired by American designer Betsey Johnson while Hannah’s look revolves around the work of Nicole Farhi.
Bekki said: “We came so close last year we wanted to double our chances for this year.
“We have put a lot of research into this as we have to find clothes and make-up as well as making sure the hair is perfect.
“Now hopefully we can get through to the next round again.”
After the London competition, Bekki and her team will have to wait until June 12 before finding out if they have made it through to the regional finals in Manchester.
