THE PRESIDENT of the Arbroath Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild has extended her thanks to those who helped support the Lifeboat despite the economic downturn.
The many fund-raising events organised by the ladies to support the crewing and equipping of the Arbroath branch of the RNLI, have been very well attended and have helped buck the economic trend.
President Barbara Cargill said: “On behalf of the members of the Guild and the lifeboat crew we would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout 2012.
“As you will have read in the Arbroath Herald the crew of both the ‘Inchcape’ and the ‘Duncan Ferguson’ have been extremely busy over the past few weeks and without your help none of this dangerous and arduous work would be possible.”
At their annual general meeting at the beginning of June, the Arbroath Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild revealed it had smashed previous fund-raising targets and had raised £71,776.55 over the previous 12 months.
The RNLI shop at the lifeboat shed has done a roaring trade in RNLI cards, small gifts and lifeboat memorabilia.
Although stocks are seriously depleted, there are still some items left, and anyone urgently needing that last little stocking filler is urged to call shop manager Mary Gerrard on 01241 875209.
The shop will undergo a refresh over the festive period and after the annual stocktake and replenishment of the shelves it will re-open early in the New Year.
Barbara added: “From all the members of the Arbroath Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild, we wish all and everyone who has supported the Arbroath RNLI in 2012 a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
