A large congregation attended a Carol Service held in St Mary’s Episcopal Church just before Christmas. The service was conducted by the Bishop of Brechin, the Rt. Rev. Dr Nigel Paton and the church was beautifully decorated and lit by candlelight. In addition, each member of the congregation was given a candle. The service opened with Kate Willey, as the unaccompanied soloist in ‘Once in Royal David’s City’. Alison Hart, organist, and the Hill Street Singers led the congregational singing in traditional well loved carols. During the service, eight readings were given by members of the congregation and from the youth of the church. Between carols and readings, the Hill Street Singers conducted by Frank Gilbert, contributed with items sung in harmony. Some were accompanied by Alison Hart and some were sung a capella. The singers also provided descants to the carols. Mulled wine and mincemeat pies were served following the service.
