THE PARENTS of a baby who was cared for at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow have raised over £5,000 in their daughter’s memory.

Ashley and Derek Broughton held a charity quiz night at Seaton House on Saturday to thank the hospital which looked after their daughter Evie.

Evie was born in Edinburgh on September 28 last year with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia before being transferred to Yorkhill.

However, sadly, she died aged nine weeks on December 2.

Ashley explained: “Evie had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia, where her right side of the diaphragm didn’t form and various organs were moved up into the chest.

“Evie was put on ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) and transferred to Yorkhill at two days old and had surgery to correct the hernia at five days old.

“In the end Evie’s lungs were not mature enough to be brought off the ventilator and she fell asleep on December 2, aged nine weeks.”

On Saturday night £5,300 was raised for Yorkhill Hospital after a quiz raffle and auction.

Two nurses from the hospital also attended with Gillian Wyllie, ECMO co-ordinator giving a presentation on Evie’s condition.

And Ashley added: “Words cannot explain how delighted we are with that total!”
