Carnoustie man captures Spirit of Angus

The winners of the Capture the Spirit of Angus photography competition were announced last week.

The beautifully atmospheric ‘Bridge at Barry Station’ by Euan Gray, Carnoustie, took the top spot in the adult section and ‘The White Caterthun’ earned Rachael Skinner, Brechin, first prize in the junior section.

Professional artist and photographer, Oonagh Devoy, selected the prize winners from a short list of 50 finalists.

Commenting on the winners Oonagh said: “From a fantastic finalists’ gallery our four winners presented the most well-composed, artistic and original images, that evoke the very spirit of Angus.”

An exhibition of the photographs of all 50 finalists runs until Friday, December 5, at Brechin Townhouse Museum.

The exhibition will tour Angus during 2015.

The chair of the Angus Commonwealth Games Steering Group and Communities vice-convener Councillor Jeanette Gaul said: “We have been delighted by the quality of all 176 entries received.

“They are a magnificent cultural legacy from the Games in Angus and are a very welcome addition to the Angus Photographic Collection held by Angus Archives.

“I hope people will bring their family and friends to see this unique community snapshot of beautiful Angus.”

A final winner has still to be selected. The People’s Choice award will go to the image which attracts the most public votes on the Spirit of Angus online gallery at, voting is open until December 5.
