OFFICIALS of Arbroath Fairtrade Action Group Mary Reid and Pat Millar have been successful in getting the five Co-operative stores to sign their Statement of Support for Fairtrade in the town.
They have extended the group’s thanks and explained that this is another step towards Fairtrade status for Arbroath. It is also a bonus for the Angus Fairtrade Zone’s application.
Kelly Ann Dempsey, chairman of the Angus Fairtrade Zone, had said they needed a flagship employer for their application and The Co-operative agreed to take on the role. Mrs Reid will take their new signings to the Zone meeting in County Buildings, Forfar, on Wednesday, September 5.
The Zone’s application will go in at the end of September.
Scotland will achieve its target of becoming a Fair Trade Nation in 2012 if they get one more town and Zone to gain Fairtrade Status.
