There will be no hiding for an Angus accommodation provider after winning a top regional tourism award.
Based five miles north of Dundee, the Hideaway Experience was named Best Holiday Accommodation at the North East and Tayside regional finals of the Scottish Thistle Awards.
Held at Perth Racecourse on Tuesday (November 11), the Hideaway Experience beat off stiff competition from Comrie Croft in Crieff and Kinnaird Woodland Lodges in Pitlochry.
The unique five-star Hideaway Experience combines the best elements of self-catering with the very best elements of a luxury hotel to offer its guests complete privacy, peace, locally-sourced food and drink and spa facilities.
For the first time in its 22 year history, the Scottish Thistle Awards are now led by several organisations including VisitScotland, the Hospitality Industry Trust Scotland, Scottish Tourism Alliance, Highlands & Islands Tourism Awards and the Scottish Licensed Trade Association.
The Hideaway Experience will now go on to represent Angus and the wider North East and Tayside region at the glittering national final at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow next year.
Stephen Carter OBE, VisitScotland Board Member and Chair of the Scottish Thistle Awards Industry Panel, said: “The caliber of entries to this year’s Scottish Thistle Awards has been outstanding and on behalf of the panel I want to congratulate all those shortlisted for today’s ceremony, particularly our winners.
“2014 has been an exceptional year for Scottish tourism with the Commonwealth Games, the Ryder Cup and Year of Homecoming. We must now use the success of this year as a launchpad for tourism. The people and businesses represented here today will play a key part in helping ensure Scotland’s tourism industry continues to thrive and that visitors, old and new, keep coming to Scotland.”
Jim Clarkson, VisitScotland regional partnerships director, added: “I’m delighted to hear that Angus will be represented at the national final of the Scottish Thistle Awards. The Hideaway Experience is an excellent example of a business that goes the extra mile to help their visitors enjoy some truly Brilliant Moments. I wish them the greatest of luck for the next stage of the competition.”
