Arbroath celebrity chef Jamie Scott is to open a new top-flight restaurant just across the Tay River.
Jamie Scott, ‘Masterchef: The Professionals’ winner, and his wife Kelly are to transform part of the former Newport Hotel, Newport-on-Tay, into a high class restaurant and bar.
He plans to spend more than £50,000 tailoring the kitchen to his needs and, while he takes care of the food, Kelly will look after the front of house.
Jamie said: “Really, really excited about it. I’m very nervous, of course, but I’ve been thinking about doing this for the past 16 months, so it’s not a new thing. Right from the start when you work in a place you want your own kitchen and with this we’re starting completely from scratch. It’s going to be over four floors, two restaurant floors, the bar and the kitchen above. I’ve always wanted to be my own boss and have Kelly working the front of house.”
The theme, Jamie says, will be modern Scottish, with lots of small dishes, but he stressed more Pincho (Northern Spain) style than than Tapas.
Jamie hopes to have the restaurant open by the end of the year or early January.
